News on the COVID-19 front in Brantford and Brant County was noticeably better Saturday compared to Friday.
The total number of confirmed cases rose by 14 in all of Brant County Friday to Saturday according to data posted at the website of the Brant County Health Unit.
This brings to 2,885 the number of COVID-19 cases registered in the local health district since the global pandemic was declared last year. Of these, 2,706 have been resolved, which is an increase in recovered cases of 29 from Friday into Saturday.
The number of active cases in the local health district was also down Saturday compared to Friday. Friday, the health unit was monitoring 177 active cases. By Saturday morning, this had fallen to 162 according to the Brant County health unit website.
There was also a noticeable drop in the number of new cases Friday to Saturday. The Brant health unit reported 40 new cases Friday; Saturday morning, this had fallen to 14 over the intervening 24-hour period.
The number of people hospitalized in the Brant County health district also dropped Friday into Saturday. Friday morning, the Brant health unit reported 11 people in hospital with COVID-19 symptoms. By Saturday morning, the health unit reported this had fallen to five.
